Choosing the Right Tools

When starting out, you don’t need a lot of equipment. Here’s what to get:

Needles

Material: Wood or bamboo is easier for beginners because it’s less slippery than metal.

Size: Start with 4.5mm or 5mm needles. They’re easy to handle and work well with thicker yarns.

Yarn

Look for: A smooth, medium-weight yarn (labelled as worsted or double knit) in a light colour – you’ll be able to see your stitches more easily.

Avoid: Fluffy, fuzzy, or very dark yarns at first.
