Keeping the knitting habit

Knitting should feel like a comforting ritual — something you look forward to, not another item on your to-do list. Here are a few ways to weave it naturally into your life so it stays enjoyable and sustainable:
Pair it with something you love. Put on an audiobook, listen to music, catch up on your favourite podcast, or watch a cosy movie while you knit. Associating knitting with other pleasures makes it a treat for both mind and body.
Keep it in sight. Out of sight, out of mind applies here too. Place a small project in a basket or tote near your favourite chair, so it’s always ready for you to pick up — even if it’s just for a row or two.
Make it your travel companion. One of knitting’s joys is its portability. Take a project with you in your bag so you can make progress while waiting for an appointment, commuting, or even while the kettle boils.
Swap scrolling for stitching. Next time you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through social media, pick up your needles instead. Those little moments add up — you might finish a whole project without even noticing.
Set gentle goals. Instead of aiming to knit for hours, try committing to “just 10 minutes a day.” Some days you’ll knit more, others less, but the habit will stick without pressure.
Celebrate small wins. Finished a square? Learned a new stitch? Take a moment to admire your work and notice how far you’ve come. The satisfaction will keep you coming back for more.
